transmission swap
I'm thinking of doing an auto to manual swap.
What all would I need for this project, how much would it cost to get these parts, and about how much would labor cost? I would like the tremec 6, but I'm gonna settle for the T5. |

I did this converstion and NO you do not need a computer or harness to do this. Just swap them and you will see. Good luck.

ok you may get lucky and the harness from your auto might hook up to the manuel trans............but in my experience in trans swaps, sometimes the wires don't match up, therefore you might need the harness that goes to the manuel one. Sensors, all that shit...........just look under and look at the wiring plug, then compare it to the new trans .......

Ok from what I have found the tremec 6 is gonna run me about $2000, now how much is everything else gonna run me about? Would it just be easier to take them from a junkyard? Also still need to know a rough estimate on labor since I don't have the knowledge to do this swap, and I don't have the proper tools.

if i could afford a v8, i would. but a manual would be much more fun to drive. i have an auto though, but auto's are very consistent and you can tune them pretty good nowadays

Yea, me and him are kinda both in the same boat. I'm just bored with this automatic. I love driving 5 speeds. I'm gonna see what I can do about a v8, and if I get the opportunity I will take it.

I really prefer a 5 speed as most have already stated. Automatic isn't a bad word though! I however am probably one of few that is planning on keeping a v6 under the engine and pounding the pavement that way.
I am going to opt out of a 3.8 and move on to a 4.2. ![]() Everyone should do it their own way though! But anyway BACK ON TOPIC GUYS. The Tremec will be a huge difference over the T5. If I was doing a swap I would definately spend the extra cash.

you will need the harness and pcm from a 5spd 98 for it to work properly. You'll be blowing dtcs all over the place due to it not seeing the auto trans there. My advise, take the $$ you have budgeted for this and use as a downpayment on a GT

I would save the cash for a GT but if you absolutely inbsist on a manual, there is no sense is spending the cash for a tremec only to sell it later. If your dead set on doing it, go with a T5. You wil get the manual that you want at a more affordable price and a T5 should handle the power that your 6er makes without any worries.
