Newbie Nitrous Questions
OK well i've never owned a car and so have never had a nitrous system. But you install it i get that. Then can you set how much horse power your gaining so the bottle isnt letting out as much nitrous? Or is it just set? There is a switch that installs into your car(cup holder or dash) i believe, and then when you hit that switch the bottle will start emptying giving you that booost of power? Then when you stop hitting the switch the system shuts off or does it empty the whole bottle before stopping? Where can you get the bottle filled? Wheres the most common place to install the bottle? Thank you for whoever answers all of those... sorry i just don't know much about the whole thing or cars in general.

You don't "set" how much HP, or shot you will be running. You have to change out the nozzles. a bigger shot will have a bigger nozzle allowing more n20 to flow through. Usually your line feeds right into your intake. But there are several different ways to do it.
There are different ways to activate your nitrous system. Yes, you can have switch activated, or button, or they have what is called wide open throttle. Basically when you floor your gas pedal down all the way it will spray nitrous. No the bottle does not empty before it stops spraying. You can get it filled at a lot of local shops, they aren't hard to find just gotta look around for one. Most common place to install: For a strictly racing car, probably back seat which would have been taken out, so then you can just reach behind you and open the bottle when you need to. More commonly they are installed in the trunk. The bad part is you have to get out and go to your trunk to open your nitrous bottle unless you have a remote bottle opener which run around $200. You just run a switch into your vehicle and the system will open it for you. If anybody wants to ADD/CORRECT by all means, feel free. |

You pretty much hit everything on the head except for the bottle opening part. I mounted mine in the trunk and all I have to do is fold down the rear seats and lean back a little to reach the valve. The only thing that is bad about that is that I can't see my pressure gauge, I wasn't thinking when I installed it and it's not facing the front of my car. I can probably still turn it some more and get it facing the front so that I never have to get out to check bottle pressure or to turn it on.
As far as how a system is activated, the more switches, and safety parts included, the better. Like 94' Cobra said, one of the ways to do it is with a wide open throttle switch. These come with most newer kits, and are a great way to activate your N2O without having to find another button in the cockpit of your car. |

i put my pressure gauge to where when i pull the rear seat down i can just look back and see it. i wired my bottle heater into the rear defrost button, im also running a tps (thorttle position sensor) instead of the wot switch. its a little more safe

So what does the throttle positions sensor do? Is that like something i read that is activated by your RPMS? I thought i read something like that. Thanks for the info and few more questions why is it so important to know the pressure of the bottle? What does the pressure of the bottle tell you?

You want to know the pressure because it has to stay within a certain range to perform its best. They have different ways to maintain pressure. NOS has an auto device that heats and cools the bottle to sustain a certain pressure. The also have bottle warming kits to keep the pressure up since cold air condenses and hot air expands, only its not air its n20.
If I am not mistaken, throttle position sensor just senses the position of the throttle. Like I was saying before, wide open throttle activation sprays your nitrous when you floor your gas peddle. Now RPM's is a different story. They also have window switches which won't allow your nitrous system to activate unless the car is in a certain RPM range, ex: 3,000-6,500. This is a safety device to prevent spraying at too low or too high of RPM which can SCREW YOUR ENGINE BIG TIME. |

well i run a wndow switch and the tps sensor. my siwtch turns the n2o on at 3500 and shuts it off at 6200 even though it will spray only when the throttle is all the way down and the nirtous system is activated. ill have to wait till tomorrow or tuesday to get some pics of my setuo. we kinda had to rig it a little bit because some of the lines were just a little short. anyways ill try to get some pictures of it tommorow

You can get a ZEX wet kit off ebay for a little over 500, and if you dont get many accessories it won't go over 750, but remember if you are going to be using it A LOT you will be paying for bottle refills. But if you are planning on using it a lot you might want to think about supercharging or turbo
I suggested ZEX because I really like their set up, although i don't have any experience with it. go to ZEX.com and you can check out some of their stuff. Just click on EFI, Ford and they have some kits to choose from. Or like I said go to ebay.com and get the same kits for cheaper. BTW, what are you driving? and what mods do you have? what kind of shot are you thinking about? |
