351 Windsor

Whats up, im getting a 351 from a local junk yard very soon to swap into my 87 mustang. I'm going to first rebuild the engine and all that good stuff. Then im going to hit up a machine shop to geet it bored out to .30" over and get the new pistons. With that done what size gears will i need for the back.

Depends on what you're wanting out of the car. Is it gonna be street, strip, or both? A pretty good middle gear for a big motor like that would probably be 3.55's, though I'd definately lean towards 3.73's if you don't mind the extra RPM on the street.

I'd say if you've got a manual transmission go with the 3.73 ratio and if it's an automatic go for the 4.10's.

On a little side note - my brother just rebuilt his 351 Windsor rated at 450 hp and dropped it back into his 95 Bronco. Now of course it's a truck so he's got a bigger rear end, but he went with 4.56s in the back. Awfully good engine you both have, lucky bastards.
