the best thing to do is either modify the valve body yourself(www.tccoa.com has a good article) or buy a modified valve body from darrin/alan at bc-automotive, and buy a better torque converter(alan makes some of the best)

do not get a trans-blow or B&M shift kit

B&M makes one of the most respected racing shift kits right beside transgo. I have never even heard of tccoa. You don't need to go with an aftermarket tranny just get a shift kit good for your application and you will have great performance.

the fact that you've never heard of tccoa is amusing...but not surprising coming from someone that has spent as much on body kits as performance

the article on www.tccoa.com about the 4r70w transmission is written by one of the ford engineers that designed the transmission

and i didn't say buy an aftermarket transmission
but a better and properly stalled torque converter will decrease et's with a stock 2v auto more than going from 3.27's to 4.10's

umm I spent nothing on my body kit it was a gift so don't even go there. I read it and it sounds great but I would have to have personal experience with it before I recommend it. I love my transgo kit and I have plenty of friends who use b&m as a drag application and a street application who love them and have never had a problem.

B&M and trans-go may be good alternatives in c4's and aod's but i'm talking about specifically with the 4r70w(the transmission in all automatic 4.6's and v6's 96-04)

the transgo kit is known to reliably blow up the transmission in a 2v v8's within 10k-20k of hard use

the j-mod is significantly safer, lets the transmission run cooler, and shifts quicker

I have the j-mod done on my car and i have a 4000 stall full billet 9.5" converter from alan that will be installed in the next week

96-04 v6's have the AODE not the 4r70W.

and the transgo kit that blows the tranny is the manual only kit cause it does put way to much stress on the engine.

The auto and manual transgo kit is amazing and has very firm and quick shifts as so does the b&m which is one of the firmest shift I have felt in any car.

i was about 99% sure that was wrong but i had to go get my haynes to check since i don't own nor work with/on v6's but all 96-04 automatic mustangs had the 4r70w according to haynes

and it is ALL trans-go kits on a 4r70w that are detrimental because they generally increase line pressure to firm up the shift and it eats up the servos

I know for a fact 99-04's have an AODE I had to know when I ordered my torque converter and my shifter.

a 4r70w is an electronic overdrive but it's not the same as the AODE's that came in 95 and previous models

yeah from looking around I see both the AODE and the 4r70w for the 99-04 though maybe the 4r70w's were in the gt's. Or they started calling the 4r70w the AODE for short

aode just means it has an electronic lock up--the 4r70w is a specific model that came in 96-04 V6's and GT's and it came in alot of 3.8 and 4.6 tbirds/markVIII's/crownvics/maruaders etc.

yeah ok wer probably talking about the same tranny then. But I have never had a problem with my trransgo kit and it has been on for 60k miles. Never heard of a problem with a b&m either.

it may be because you have a v6 it's not putting as much power through it as the 4.6's do but from what i've seen 20k is a lucky mile mark to make if you drive it hard/race it much...whereas with a properly stalled/jmoded car the 4r70w will outlast most 400-500 rwhp engines they're attached to
