Thinking About Drop Springs...

I got a question for ya'll. I have a 2002 Mustang V6 non-conv. and i was wanting to lower it about 2 inches. So i got around to looking at some lowering springs and found a set made by a company called dropzone. It's a 2" in the front and 2" in the rear. I was wondering if any of you guys have any experience with this brand and also what would be the positive and negative effects of dropping my car 2 inches? Thanks in advance for any help.

Two inches would likely result in a harsh ride, if that's ok with you then just be sure to get caster / camber plates because your gonna need them to get the alignment right. Also gonna need offset rack bushings if going that low.

PS - 2 inches is alot. It's not gonna be lowered, it's gonna be slammed.

I looked at those springs when I was in the market for some springs but all the reviews were not very good... If I were you just save a bit more money and get a set of H&R supersports or Eibach sportlines. Remember you are going to need to do C/C plates and shocks and struts.

2" is a lot. I've heard of Dropzone but I haven't heard good things about them. You can get BBK Specific Rates w/ Offset Steering Rack Bushings for $200 shipped to your door from JEGS. Lowers 1.5" and the ride is great!

i put a set of Eibach in mine, although i have a FOX body it does handle much better with alot less body roll. reguardless of which brand you buy i would go with one that has a progressive rate sprind, will help make the ride a little more plush. also how are your roads? i am restricted to driving about 45mph most of the time to keep from ripping everything of the bottom of my car.

well i want my car to be low but i'm not sure what all i would have to do because i've never done anything that has to do with suspension. but i want my car to be pretty much slammed to the ground but i still want my alignment to be reasonable and the ride quality to be reasonable.

1.8 front 1.5 rear... this will give ur car an intimidating look plus it will look a lot better on a muscle car, THERE IS NO RICE IN MUSCLE. Personally i don't think you would be happy with the 2 inch drop, u will have many problems to come that u don't think of right away - my 2 cents

this is just me but i would get everything you need first and install all at once, this will save on premature tire wear ect....... also i would buy a progressive rate spring set, matching shocks, c/c plates, and new bushings. not sure about your set up but i also replaced my old spring isolaters with a set from prothane.

i have a subtle 1.25" drop with frpp c springs. i still scrape my long tube headers on some speed bumps. think of future mods and everything before you really drop the car alot. a 1.5" drop, and some better shocks/struts will be great to maintain ride quality while lowering.

If i went with the 1.8 inch drop in the front and the 1.5 inch drop in the rear would i still have to get c/c plates, shocks, struts, and bushings?

well you wouldn't "have to" replace your stock shocks/struts. but with the lower springs there's a good possibility your going to be bottoming out your shocks/struts causing them to prematuraly wear and run the risk of breaking something. as for the c/c plates will save on tire wear and also it could effect the handeling with out them. and the bushings is more of a "if your in there replace old with new" type of thing again this is just my thoughts

At a 2" drop, ride is gonna be a pita. Also in addition to the offset rack bushings, a bump steer kit is probably gonna be needed.

So where can i get a set of drop springs that drop my car 1.8" in the front and 1.5" in the rear at a fairly low price?

It's important that ALL of your suspension components are compatible!

You will need camber/caster plates in order to ensure that the wheels can be correctly aligned after lowering. Shocks and struts need to match the new springs, etc.

If you just replace the springs with shorter ones without making other adjustments, you'll be asking for problems.

I had my entire suspension rebuilt all at the same time because I wanted to lower my car. I had Eibach pro-kit springs installed, and I got a 1.5" drop all around. Believe me, that is plenty, and it looks great!
I think my car handles better and it feels "tighter" going around sharp curves.

The downside is that I only have a 2.9" ground clearance at my catalytic converters now. I can't go over speed bumps b/c they will scrape. My car can't fit over the edge of the service pit at the Jiffy Lube now either!

Since almost all my driving is on the turnpikes, ground clearance is not a serious issue for me, but I have to be much more careful now.

Think it over very carefully!

Good luck and all best,
Joe

i would also recommend against the 2 inch drop, you will scrap on every speedbump and steep driveway and possibly damage your exhaust system. personally i would never go over 1.5 on a sn95 daily driver unless it was adjustable... if you are dead set on that much of a drop i would probably recommend going the air ride route, that way you can slam it when you want and raise it back up for the real world. anything over 1.4 will require caster camber plates to align so you are not eating tires. if you chop or replace the oem springs with another set that lowers them i would also recommend doing the shocks and struts because before you know it you will be pulling it apart again to replace them because the oem's are garbage, not to mention you will have to get another alignment.

But i really want my car to be slammed. So if i stick with the 2"Dropzone springs then i will need to get shocks struts and caster/camber plates? Where can i get all of this at for a low price?

i doubt you will ever find a kit that contains the "dropzone" brand springs and shocks and struts unless it was on ebay....

either way if i was to do a 2inch drop on my stang and wanted to ensure the suspension geometery was proper and i wouldn't have to re-touch it anytime soon, i would order;

springs, struts & shocks, aluminum offset rack bushing, bump steer kit, maximum motorsports c/c plates, ball joints and alignment.

if you could sacrifice that .6 of an inch you could get away with just the springs and shocks/struts and alignment.

i recommend against the dropzone springs. i put dropzones on my 01 v6. the rear dropped about 2 as expected, but the front did not, since the dropzones are designed for the v8 & v6...and as we all realize the v8's have a heavier engine. the difference is enough i had to get my headlights readjusted along with the cc plates, the tstruts, and all. also they hit every speed bump and actually squeak when going over rough roads. if that isn't enough, then realize the springs are designed for a bit more weight in the front so when a v6 stops, it noses over pretty far, lifting the rear and your traction...which is what we are trying to prevent anyway....just fyi
