painting top

has any one ever tried useing duplicolor fabric paint to paint a top. mines white and want to paint it black

Might be easier, IMO, to just buy a new black top.

It will not work. There is not enough flex agent in the dye/paint to allow all the bending and creasing to which a top is put through. Sorry.

Fuck that! If you are going to end up buying a new top, may as well give it a try. I would think the paint has to be a sort of dye rather than a paint. No offense, but yea, anything other than white!

It is not a true dye. That is the problem with it. It does not absorb in to the material. It sits on top of it like a paint. It basically formulated to bond better then regular paint would so it holds to items such as dashboards better. Look at anyones car who has done this to there seats. It cracks, peels, and rubs off. I am speaking from first hand experience.

oh im not arguing the fact. I am sure it will look like shit and crack and peel. Maybe on the old tops it worked better, but on ours, never. All im saying is if you are going to eventually get a new top, may as well try painting it to see how it ends up.
