Lay 'n Decals

Everyone who is anyone has had issues laying large decals onto window's, windshields & body panels. Here are a few instructions to get the job done like a pro.

Window's / Windshields:

#1. The Prep - Clean your area with windex till you here it squeek. After allowing the area to dry completly, use pure rubbing alcohol to the area. ( This step is one of the most important steps so make sure it is completly clean.)

#2. Placement - Use Blue Painters Tape ( 3M ) for this step. Tear a piece of masking tape off and place one piece to each side of image making sure it hangs off the image atleast 3" and onto the image 3". Now place image to the selected area, smoothing it as flat as possible to the window and securing it with the masking tape overhang,

#3. Measure Ments - Make sure to measure you image for proper place ment using the masking tape to secure your chosen mark. Select the straightest area of the decal to perform a perfect measurement. Leaving one side taped to the area and pealing the tape from the otherside will allow you to adjust. Once the image is placed, run 1 long piece of masking tape from top to bottom in the center of the image. This is your anchor hinge and it must be holding the image secured.

#4. Aplication - Starting from the Left side, remove the masking tape from the left side of the image. Peel the decal away from the release liner ( Paper Backing mastic side is attatched to) to your center hinge. Let image lay on the non mastic side and cut the release liner with rasor blade removing it from the area. Spray area with a slip solution lightly, take image into left hand and angle it to a 45 deg position, run hard card or squeege (Drivers Liscens Works as well) up and down the image starting from the center hinge working out to the left untill image is placed. Remove center hinge and repeat the process to the right side of image.

#5. After the image is set run the hard card up and down left and right on the image to insure decal is stuck to area. At this time check for air bubbles, if any are present take a pin and poke the bubble a few times and rub out with hard card. Allow the image to dry for 10 min.

#6. Check to make sure image is completly dry then remove the application paper starting at the uper right side and pealing slowley towards the lower left corner until the application paper is detatched. * After pealing the uper right hand corner up let the paper rest onto the image and pull slowley *

Use these steps to apply decals on body panels as well.

Tricks:

How to find the exact center of the decal without measuring it?
Fold the decal from one edge to the other, hold the image infront of a light to see through the paper to make sure decal edges aline. Squeez image down the side to creat a crease. This will be the exact center of the decal.

How to remove a decal.
Spray Orange Peel decal remover on decal and let it rest for 15 min. Repeat this process 3 times to allow the remover to soften the decal. Take a heat gun and place it on a medium setting and heat the decal. Peel edge up and remove slowley applying heat to the area. Spray area when the decal is removed with the remover and wipe area down until the mastic is gone.
