What do you guys think about these exhausts?

I have a 2001 v6 coupe and am looking to convert it to a dual exhaust and have a couple questions before I buy anything.

First of all I found a mac conversion at AmericanMuscle http://www.americanmuscle.com/99-04-v6-mac-catback.html but it is out of stock.

I found a similar one here https://www.speedworx.com/MAC-Cat-Ba...bra-p-479.html but it doesn't come with the y pipe like the american muscle one has.

What I'm wondering with this one is will it work with my stock y pipe or would I have to get a true dual conversion pipe as well to make this one work?

Also I found another one here that would be an easy install w/o any extra piping http://blueovalindustries.bluekeyinc...p?pid=99012156 and the price isn't too bad either. Has anyone tried these out before? Also there is a sound byte on the page for it and am looking for feedback on what you think of the sound.

Or if anyone has any other suggestions on exhausts I'm open to ideas but I am trying to keep it around $300.

Thanks,
Jason

1. get rid of the y pipe very restrictive.
2. for around 300 go to a muffler shop and get true duals with a crossover bar and flowmaster super 40's
gonna be about 375 welded. They will cut the y-pipe at the y making 2 separate pipes. The crossover bar will act as a mid pipe and will even flow and sound. then the flowmasters are your mufflers.

I'm really not looking to take it in anywhere. I'm mainly just looking for some bolt ons that I can do myself at home. I won't be racing it or anything, so don't necessarily need the best of the best. I'm just looking to make some small performance tweaks to change it up a little bit from stock and make it sound better. Only bolts ons I plan to do atm are dual exhaust and cai. Only things I've really done to it so far is just some interior/exterior dress up and I plan to paint some interior parts when it warms up outside. Did you take a look at the pypes exhaust? Just curious on what you think of the sound. Plus the $300 is a fairly strict limit. Fiance watches me like a hawk when I try to buy stuff for my car so I had to sell some stuff on ebay to avoid her wrath for future mods.

Well bolt on exhaust can have some problems it is better to have it welded and going to a shop you won't have to buy a kit they will do all the piping for you. I have heard mixed things about pypes. I've not personally heard them but flows is best sounding on a v6 IMO

with bolt ons you have to make sure nothing like rocks damage the bolts umm make sure they never come lose. you can have leaking issues. Think of it as you are going to have a bunch of connected parts where welding is one big part the more parts the more you have to break. Midas is expensive. Go to a little private owned shop and make sure they use mandrel bends. If you can't find a private owned shop try midas but don't let them charge more than 375 and tell them not to use any name brand piping like borla to up the price and again make sure they use mandrel bends.

If I end up taking it to a shop I'll def do the mandrel bends. Will probably have them dump them as well so I can use my stock bumper and not have to shop around for a gt rear cover. I don't know of any small shops but I'll have to check around. Will probably stop in to Midas some time and have them give me a quote.

you can just set the exits under your bumper since there are no cut outs. But yeah get a quote and if they say like 900 bucks ask to see a muffler and smack them in the face with it

think it would save me some money to buy the flowmaster mufflers separate and take them in with me? Cheapest I've seen em new for 2 super 40 s was 147 including shipping. Think they retail for 105 on the flowmaster website. I don't want to pay midas $210 for the mufflers.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FLOWM...81975624QQrdZ1

He is selling them new for $65 each. I'm assuming I should go with 2.25 for my v6?

And if I were to buy parts before going in should I look around for a true dual with crossover bar as well or just get what they give me at the shop.

well the shop will do all the piping the crossover bar acts like an h-pipe your not going to find an exhaust setup with on already there your exhaust will be custom. and yes 2.25 us good for your car.
And that guy selling looks reputable go for it.
