Installing Nitrous Bottle

I am finalling installimng my nitrous kit and I went to install the 10lb bottle in the back lower right hand corner of the trunk but Im concerned if I will hit the gas tank there. How deep should I drill and will I hit the gastank? A wire comming out of the trunk is going to be inbetween the two brackets I mount.

i want to put it in like so

Just drill carefully. You won't hit the gastank unless you fave alot of force on the drill to have it shoot through the metal and into your gas tank. American Muscle.com has instal video's.

when mounting it on the pass side of the trunk, the gas tank is farther away than you think. you can get a small pc of sheet metal and stick it up there between the gas tank and the bottom of the trunk floor, that way when you go through the floor, you will hit that and not the tank

here is a trick that us installers (electronics) use for grounds and will work in the application. find and mark the area you want to drill, take a self tap and drill enough so that you break through the metal, take a poker or something rigid that you can push through and measure how much room you have to work with. A 1" self tap is good as its enough to get through the metal and not long enough to pierce through anything else underneath. If you pierce through and then push your poker through and hit resistance then you know that something is in the way so move elsewhere.

But as stated there is a decent amount of room there.

Umm.. you should probably keep the spare in there unless you have AAA or something. If I remember correctly, there is a patch of "cardboard" under the carpet in the trunk. It should be right over where the hole is for the spare. You could just drill there instead. Only down side is that the bottle would be right in the middle of the trunk. It would hold just fine though. You could even make a metal bracket for it if anything.

I dont carry arround a socketwrench to get my aftermarket wheels off so I can use the spare reguarless. + I think the spare is a little smaller then my current wheels. The cardboard is crap. I dont mind having it in the middle of my trunk. The only thing Is I would have to cut the trunk liner a little bit. Im assumming the bottle needs to be pretty tight since it is a heavy object.

It really isn't all that heavy honestly. I suggested a metal bracket just to add strength, but honestly I doubt it even needs it..
Where it matters in strength is where the bottle sits in it's own bracket. That shouldn't move. I basically did the same thing when I installed mine into my rear seat. Same thickness "cardboard" and all and it help up just fine.

Its a good option thanks man, But My only Issue Is I think It would move alot on taking off and hard stops since the carpet in mine isnt really stuck to anything, Maybe its just old. Im kinda also thinking if I go to the trouble of attacking it to the car itself it might look nicer.

Got it in, put a peice of plywood streetching the length of the trunk and about 18 inches wide down, then bolted the brackets through the cardboard, carpet and plywood. Worked great and it sits nicely in the center.

Thanks for your help guys

Thanks for the advice with the cardboard, it helped. With the board under it spanning the length of the trunk its rock solid now. So now that my issue of mounting is has been resolved I will put on the rest of the items and when I get my tlok ill be good with the nawwwzzzzz .... Nitrous
