Rear End Gear Swap Help

I have a 1998 GT with stock 2.73 gears. I am getting ready to install 3.55 gears but would like to do it myself. Can someone put a step by step map for me to follow? Thanks

Rear gears is a very scientific process. I wouldnt recomend trying them on your own for the first time. Just my 2 cents.

You'll not be satisfied w/ 3:55's...

Go 4:10's, hand down for the win... And take it somewhere, 9 times out of 10 somthing will go wrong if you haven't done it before..

Bossman351 has a real good point I been building cars for 30 years and still take my car to a rear end guy, it is well worth the money // usualy 300 to 500 dollars depending on just what you are having done and the amount of parts you supply. We are all good at at least one thing, if age has taught me anything it's know your limits and go with what your good at. W.P.

Just my opinion go with 3.73 gears cause my boys have gts as well and they have all the same shit exept for gears. I mean same year, engine work. The one with the 3.73 gears puts it on the one with 4.10 gears plus it get lttle better gase milage. also they are both 99 gt's.

Once I bought my 4:10's and trac-loc rebuild kit, I had a shop install them both for $256....well worth it!

well, my 2 cents agrees that you should go with the 4.10's at least, and depending on your mechanical abilities and skill level determine whether you do it or not

I am going to echo the thoughts of everyone else and say "SHOP!!!"

But, if you DO want to do it yourself, there is nothign wrong with it. I've done it a couple times myself.. you MUST, repeat MUST understand the procedure before you take things apart... and you will have to be a patient guy because it will take a bit to get it done right the first time. I had an experianced rear end guy with me when I did mine, and I was still able to screw stuff up..

*side note* chris, do you take the middle ground just to argue or be different, LOL some say 3.73, some say 4.10... and you go 3.90 LOL LOL
