Don't know off the top of my head. So you can move the wheel 1.5 inches without affecting the car's direction? Have you looked at all the linkages? Checked power steering fluid?

If you think they're all good, I would put the front end of the car in the air and play with the steering, watches all the linkages and connectors. Something has to be not working right. If you turn the wheel an inch and half, and you see the bottom of the steering column in the engine bay move the same amount, your problem is somewhere else.
