Right now I have a Pypes cat-back dual 2.5" direct replacement with mufflers on my 04 3.9 V6. The sound is great finally after the burn-in and I can tell the difference in performance over the stock easily. Soon, I will be replacing the factory shorty headers with a set of BBK ceramicoated shorty headers.

MAC L/T's, MAC Prochamber O/R H-Pipe, Dumped Dynomax race bullets. It's not as loud as the Big Brother's above me but I still get told by different people once every 2 weeks that it does not sound like any other mustang out there. Has a different pitch than most 5 liters.

I have nothing

There is no exhaust on my car, and the manifolds were damaged. I have made an offer on some long tubes, but I have heard I should go with shortty's. I assume that either of these have to be removed before you remove the starter. I am hoping that the exhaust shop will just run some pipes straight back with no cats. Thinking of running just some glass packs. I don't want mine to sound like every other 5.0 in town with flowmasters. This shop is pretty good, so I may just get their input. They have always treated me awesome. The do all of the custom pipe bending crap.

Who said you should go with shorties? Full length headers are the way to go. They scavenge better and make more horsepower and torque. I'd stay far away from the glasspacks. Glasspacks sound like crap and don't flow for crap either. There are alot of good mufflers out there to choose from such as Magnaflow, Dynomax, Borla, etc.

Like I said in my comment, there are hardly any 5.0l that sound like mine with a prochamber and dynomax race bullets. Glass packs are just cheap pipes that people just throw on their cars.

I just bought a 2005 GT and it was kind of a mess because it had strait pipes and shorty headers on it and sounded really awesome when I test drove it, but the day I came up to sign for it, they told me they had to put Cats on it to get it off the lot.
They gave me a pipe back and put the Cats on up by the headers. Not sure if they gave me back the x pipe or if I have the stock pipe back on with some kind of mufflers...they could be stock.
Anyway..its sounds really good, but I want it a little louder. I was thinking to take the mufflers off the back..which look like flowmasters... and put SLP Loudmouths axelbacks on...or something else...
Does anyone have any recommendations? I think it will sound good and make me happy if I add something to the back end instead of undoing all that they did....
However, I am intrigued by the Bassani Catted X and the Borla Stingers option and might go do that when I get the dough. Orange Code I'm wondering if you got the 3 part pipe or the single pipe that you can take the cats off and on????

If they are flowmaster mufflers, "FLOWMASTER" will be branded on the bottom of the mufflers. You will definitely get a lot louder with SLP Loudmouths, but getting rid of the catalytic converters will really wake up your car much more. Changing a midpipe is like changing the axle back but easier for your car. But since your car already has a 2.5" mid pipe, I would just ditch the catalytic converters and see how it sounds.

BTW, it is illegal for a lot to sell a car without catalytic converters or with any tampering to emissions. It is a federal EPA regulation, regardless if your state checks emissions or not.
