hypothetical question

ok so i was at work bored off of my ass watching the rice fly by all night and i got to thinking i do belive 90% of the time the only thing they do to make their pipe buzz is slap on some 3-6 inch tip nothing else correct so i wonder what would happen if someone decided to stick some 2-4 inch tips on the stock dual exhaust of a gt would that actually make a sound difference or is that some special money saving feature on imports and yes i really got that bored but its been buggin me so yea

It would just make the sound deeper. There is a guy here with a '04 terminator with 4" tips. Other than looking badass because it fills the entire exhaust cut out hole, it deepened the tone of his exhaust. The tips affect how the sound resonates.

I don't get what your saying. My Magnapacks came with 3.5" tips. I don't see where or how that makes it poor man's exhaust.

I always thought 99-04 GTs came with 3" exhaust tips. My Bullitt did. Still don't see how that makes it poor man's exhaust, but I guess you have your own logic.

ok ill slow down a lil what i am saying is instead of spending 300-1000 on a good custom exhaust you can go to autozone and buy some 20 dollar tips and get a deepeer sound hence poor man exhaust mines a 96 it didnt come with tips i call it humor of course when you have to go into detail like that it looses its flair oh never mind lol

The tips aren't going to modify the sound that much, especially if you are talking about those little 4" add on tips. Those don't do jack. I guess the humor was lost on me.

When you go to Autozone next time, grab one of them 4" tips and look inside it. See all them 'lil honeycomb lookin' things? Thats what will cause the exhaust to resonate ever so little. The package says resonator tip. Thats what it does. Now, grab an echo tube. (its the long, skinny, single walled tip). Smooth? Right. That will increase the exhaust volume.

As for the buzzing on imports, its the shape of the muffler.

Round=buzz sound
Oval=mellow tone
