Detaching cylinder question....

Ok, so my top has not been working for a while, pretty sure it's the motor that went out, but could be the cylinders. I dunno.

Anyways. I've been just manually putting it up and down, but since the cylinders are still attached, it's crazy hard to lift up, because the cylinders lock without the motor pumping.

Question is, if I detach the cylinders from the top, will anything come out of alignment. The hope is to make it so I can manually put the top up and down without the need for two people. I just wasn't sure if the attachment point at the cylinder was a major anchor point that's going to make my top get all out of wack for being detached.

Cliffs: If I detach the cylinders will the top be able to go up and down manually?
