Tool Set
Hey everyone. I want to do some work on the car next weekend and I just realized I have NO tools at all. Im just adding a CAI and Exhaust system while changing the oil and air filter.
Does anyone know a good tool set to purchase and from where? I was thinking about hitting up AutoZone today and checking out this tool set I saw before while I was passing by but im not sure if it includes all the tools I might need for simple things like what I have planned. Anyone know of anything? Thanks |

Also, if you have a local Community College you may go see if you can convince one of the auto students to let you use his discount. Which is often like 40% on Snap-On, Matco or MAC and 35-40% discount on Craftsman. Otherwise, Sears is your best bet. Home Depot carries "Huskie" or "Husky" can't remember, but they aren't mostly "Made In the USA" like the craftsman. They do have lifetime warranties on most of the stuff though and are similarly priced. Sears has a great deal on a Automechanics set right now though. I was browsing for a cordless impact the other day and spoted this:

They used to be better, now you have to make sure you get the "Professional" line. Otherwise your going to kick yourself later. Found that out the hard way when I was a Ford tech. I originally hailed Snap-On, but found that Matco, Snap-On and Mac are of equal quality with Craftsman comming in a fairly distant second. As far as "Value" for the price, I think Matco takes the checkered for me. Mac and Snap-On are almost identically priced.

Nice job! For oil changes I highly reccomend one of these: K-D Tools 3288 Universal 3-Jaw Oil Filter Wrench
Makes life so much easier.. Also, you may want to look into a torque wrench if you are going to be rotating tires and stuff. Just a FYI. You just started something that is much like modding a car... Its hard to quit buying tools lol. |

Yeah I was thinking of rotating my tires tomorrow morning, but i figured a regular wrench would do the trick, just a bit more elbow grease lol

Make sure you get a tq wrench and make sure you tighten them down to the right torque watched a wheel or two come off from people not doing that!

I've changed a few tires in the past without a tq wrench never had a problem but definitely don't want it to ever happen lol. How would I know the correct tq for the stock tires?

Im not much of a risk taker when it comes to severe damages to my new car lol I can wait till X-mas for someone to get me a tq wrench LOL. Thank you for the warning, I would of went and did it if I didnt know about wheels falling off. I've seen it happen myself, its cool to watch when its not YOUR car its happening to lol

Yeah, I was doing a car and I saw a wheel wobble on a car I was like WHO DID THAT CAR!? the new guy was like me why. I said did you tq wrench it, uhhhh no. Ran to stop the driver was not successful in stopping them.
They pulled off about 500ft later you watch the tire wobble off and pass them.... It was a gut wrenching feeling. |

Ive been looking all over for the torque specs for an 09 v6 mustang but i keep finding GTs and 2010+ spec sheets. Does anyone know what the tq specs for each lug should be? or at least a site to get it? I was looking through my manual online but didn't find anything regarding the tq values in the car. (Im sure i looked in the wrong place but I give up lol)

I believe its something like 105 ft/lbs or something like that.. Sec...
Edit: FYI, should say in your manual under maintenance and spec's. But its 100 ftlb's IIRC. Not 105 |
