any hints on how to get the springs compressed to fit back

The rear was a breeze, didn't have to do a thing, but the front is a bit harder, looks like you have to partially compress the springs and then put them in, I was hoping I could just put then in, and then use a jack under the control arm to rasie/compress the spring. It is difficult to work a spring compressor in a good location to be able to fit the tight space of the control arm

Remove the swaybar link, and tie rod, lower strut mount bolts and push the a-arm down with your foot. Put the spring in and raise the a-arm with a jack, once up, connect everything else back. Takes me about 15 minutes per side to change springs.

Thanks :-) I should of read your post before I did it, I used a spring compressor, and basically did what you did, and it took me about 2 hours per side, and I had to basically stand on the fender and hump it, lol, to get the strut to bolt back into the top hole. I love my car, but this humping shit has got to go....................... :-P

Thanks,

I am doing a 4 cyl to v8 conversion, and the donar car's springs/struts are back together, now for the real car, it doesn't have a engine, and that weight really helps when trying to get it back together

Oh, by the way

Go Pack Go:

My Son and I drove 16 hours to go see The Packers on Christmas day this year. It was a blast, and the stadium is awesome.

Ugh............................................... .........

I am having a hell of a time getting the v8 springs to go back into the 4 cyl car: The engine is out of the 4 cyl car, which may be causing a lot of the problems????? I currently have the spring installed on the drivers side, but can not get the strut to seat home. I was going to try to put the tire on the spindle and lower the car and press down hard on the fender??

Any hints??? Suggestions??? Should I go back to the 4 cyl springs? I have already put them back into the donar car, but I can remove them, or just buy a new set of 4 cyl springs

Sore/ tired/ frustrated/wondering why I ever started this project :-)

Works a lot better if you do it the right way

I found out that if you try to put the dust cover on the strut first, then a bushing, then the strut tower bracket, then another bushing that it is really hard to get it to work:

But if you put on a bushing first, then the dust cover, then the strut tower bracket it goes much easier:

I learned this after scratching my head, wondering why I was an inch short.... I wonder that alot, but that is another story............

I took the donor car strut apart just to see what was going on, and found the problem.
One other note: The strut tower brackets are different in the 89 4 cyl vs the 90 8 cyl. I also found out that the brake line locking tabs for the front brakes are different for the v8 vs the 4 cyl. Freaking awesome :-)

we always use heavy duty zip ties - use several that way when you get spring where you want it all you have to do is cut the zip ties.
