Can a water pump lock up?
I was driving my car today and my water pump locked up and melted my serpentine belt. My gatorback had no chance, baught a cheap one and it was working fine then my water pump locked up again. Had to tow my car for $50 to go 3 blocks. has this happened to anyone else or what the f*ck is wrong with my car?

I'm not sure if water pumps can actually "lock up", but they can and do sometimes go bad. If it went bad, that would cause your engine to overheat. Was your car overheating before the belt melted/borke?

If your water pump is truly 'Locking up" then theres something wrong with either the pump or your running straight water. the pumps use the coolant for lubricity so if your running a reman pump, chances are somethings wrong witht the bearings theyre using

I will be taking it off and checking what really went wrong with it this week. I am hoping that there isnt more damage.

if your pulley on the water pump doesn't move. than your pump is locked up. your alternater or a/c compressor can also lock up. check all your pulleys to make sure they all move freely
