Vert top not opening

So my SO jammed the lock down on my vert the other day and we couldn't get it open (I had the door handle off the passenger side). So my buddy (the former owner) suggested popping the top of the vert (windows were open a tiny bit) and then reaching down to open it from the inside. That worked. Yay, I can get into my car.

This morning I go to drop the top down and its not rolling back. It worked fine up and down before this. I'm wondering if I screwed something out of alignment? Where should I look?

On my last car the guy before me had just re-done the whole top mechanism so it was all mint and I never so much as had a small issue with it.

I played with it again this morning. Just a click and nothing else when I try and move it. Where should I start looking?

does the motor work maybe your low on fluid or developed a leak?
