Need opinions/advice :)

This is my current setup: FRPP bullitt suspension kit. No isolators up front, ? on the back. I want to go slightly lower. Any lower and I'll prolly need cc plates, correct? Should i spend the money on some h&r ss's, or cut my current springs. I also have a set of stock springs laying around. The car sits lower than stock but not quite low enuff. I just don't know if its worth 400 to drop 3/4 in more. Tell me what u think.

Depends on what your doing with the car and why you're lowering it.

If you're just doing it for looks, then you only need CC plates when you can no longer get your alignment back to factory spec. That happens around 1.5" of drop. Even then, you can usually get away with camber bolts (aka crash bolts) which are about 1/2-1/3rd the price of CC plates.

If you're doing it with handling in mind, you need CC plates no matter what your ride height is. Stock alignment sucks, and you can't get it to anything decent without the adjustability you get with plates. I highly recommend MM's CC plates if you're in this camp.

I will prolly do the mm plates regardless. I guess the quandry is whether to buy 200 dollar springs or cut mine slightly. I would like the car to handle as is even tho it will see no track time...or road course time.......or street time lately.

Really depends on just how well you want it to handle and how much you can realistically afford to spend to get there. If you're not doing autocross or track time, you don't need to spend near as much money on your suspension.

Also depends on your definition of "handling"; I run into people that think it refers to turning radius and ride quality rather than how controllable a car is in a corner.

I want good ride quality and it not to roll over in a corner. Is cutting a half coil off the springs gonna destroy the ride quality. If it is, I'll just spend the money on new springs. I think my biggest problem is that I am a tight ass when it comes to money.

Half a coil you probably won't notice unless it's enough that it causes you to start hitting the bumpstops (which it shouldn't).

You can always cut the springs, and if it doesn't turn out how you like, buy a set of H&Rs down the road.

my old v6 and my GT both got 1 1/2 coils cut off the front and 1 coil off the back...no ISOs...if i could go back the only thing i'd change is to a higher quality shock setup....besides that i loved the overall look and the way it took corners

live dexter said...if you don't like it then you can buy some H&Rs

It has tokico shocks/struts on it now. Would they need upgraded? I think I need to quit acting like a poosie an order the h&r's.

Which Tokicos? If you have the HPs (blues) or D-specs (adjustables) you should be fine.

They are black. Whatever came on the bullitt/mach 1, they were included in the bullitt suspension pack

Transmission

alright guys i have an 02, 4.6L V8 with 3.73 gears, flowmaster super 44 series X-pipe, aftermarket throttle body, K&N cold air intake, and a nice set of coil covers on it but... its an automatic, i was wondering if doing a tranny swap would be a good idea or just selling this one and getting a new one would be better. I've heard mixed opinions so far...

Not really sure why you posted that in this thread

You'll have much better results creating a new thread in the '99-'04 Section.
