I need to know if this will be a direct and easy swap. mine is a 2000 3.8 and I believe a t5 5 speed trans. I found one used off a 1998 v6 5 speed. Dude claims it is the same. I just need to be sure before i purchase

I had to replace the transmission in my 2000 3.8 as well, the swap itself isnt that complex. all we had to do was put it up on jackstands, drain the transmission fluid, remove the driveshaft, unbolting it from the rear end (they have those special bolts holding it on but i was able to use a metric socket that worked well.) if i remember correctly some fluid should come out when the driveshaft is pulled so a pan underneath is advised. there should be about 8 bolts on the bell housing holding it up, as well as a couple brackets near the middle of the transmission, i think. after placing blocks or a jack under the transmission you can just unbolt it and it should slide right off. i dont think the exhaust is in the way, i did this a couple of years ago. also, it is a lot easier with two sets of hands, the transmission is kind of heavy.

as far as the fitment of the 1998 t5 goes, i think it should fit, but there are a ton of knowledgeable people around here, one of them will be able to tell for sure.
