Info on tires
Hey guys. Im in need of new rear tires ...
I have 18x10 FR500s I got the set from AM w/ the summo' tires 285/35 I know different brands of tires fit differently, but i was pretty unhappy with the fitment of these tires on my rims. They hug my rim tightly, and kinda slant inwards, which looks funny w/ the 275s on the 18x9s up front fitting pretty well ... Also I know different brands have different rim protection on the side walls, well these have a little bit, but not enough IMO. But we are talking about squeezing a tire on a 10'' rim here ... didn't really think about all this when I bought them :p Lately Ive been looking at the BFgoodrich gforce kdw 2 series in 295/35s kinda expensive, but a local dealer offered me a price of 250 a tire shipped, mounted, balanced. Cheapest ive seen is 254.00 a tire shipped on the internet ... Only problem is, his dealer company doesn't have them in stock and hasnt for about 2 weeks now. And im gonna need tires fairly soon ... already getting bald So ive looked into other tires. Such as the Nitto NT555. Even considered just getting the same tire again and dealing with it ... Not sure what i want butttt kinda looking alot at sizes for around that price: 285/35 Nitto NT555, Sumitomo 285/40 Nitto NT555 295/35 BF gforce 295/45 Nitto NT555 Any recommendation as to which tire sizes for my rim ? I dont mind having a fatter tire out back, plus Ive got a tuner to adjust the rear tire size. thanks |

Stay away from the Sumis. The only good thing I've ever heard about 'em is that they're cheap.
Lots of people on here like the Nitto; I've never ran a pair, though. Tire selection really depends on your intents, needs, and budget, but for the size, a "stock" appearance is gonna be with a tire that's 120% of the wheel width. For a 10" wheel, that's a 305 (assuming the tire in question doesn't run wide or narrow). For the aspect ratio, I'd run the stock tire size through a calculator to get the diameter, then just play with the calculator using 305 as the section width until you get as close as you can on a diameter.

well they are definately going to be a lower profile.
I ran the sumis from AM when I got the rims. Still running the 275/35s up front. And they were a "decent" tire. But not having compared to something like a nitto idk But my young n dumb played a big role in my back tires about a year ago ... Our highschool parking lot had all these cute little decorated parking spots alot of the students did ... I added my own touch to them with lots of donuts n shit ... plus the million other burn outs ... So i cant really comment to much on the tire :p It was a good tire though I thought. Atleast it held up fine for my stock V6 w/ 8.8 and 3.73s. now w/ 227 to the wheels that maybe a different story lol |

I've had good luck with Falken. I have had the Falken Ziex ZE-512s for almost 6 months I guess now and have had good luck with them. They are just 245/45/17s though. They did come with a 30,000 mile warranty, handle great even in heavy rain, and I have just been pleased with them overall.
Sorry I've never done 18s or fat tires, D:

285/40/18 Nitto NT555 look AWESOME on my 18x10's !!!!! Need to do some cutting, drive ways and such can cause a little bit of rub. But the tire size looks 10x better then the Sumo 285/35s !!!
