I have to keep buying solenoids even if i put it in and stored the car the next time i went to use it it would be badthe previos 5 would just keep turning the engine over until i unhooked the battery but the last one after i stored it i went to hook up the battery and it started to spark and melt the terminals..................what is going on here.i also had a friend who had a 1990 gt and went through 3 solenoids in 1 year

unhook the little wire on the 'I' terminal, hook-up the batts, install a voltmeter to the wire (black to batts (-), and red (+) to wire)...
ck your reading with key off, key switched on, key in start position, then key in released position, and then key off again. try several times and verify all readings...should have 12volts in start position only.

Make sure you are using the correct solenoids. All the eec-equipped cars and trucks have a diode built inside the solenoid. Use of an early solenoid on them will result in failures like you describe

That will work, I still have the solenoid on my mustang when I converted, never had a problem.

Be sure you have a very good connection on your electronics such as your Duraspark ignition system, solenoids. If you are running a O2 just to grab A/F, make sure the o2 is clean LOL. I have to do the same thing soon to mine...It stays on rich because it probably carbonized by now

I agree! or a wire shorted to another. Something else overlooked is grounds! weak grounds strain coils and such (the solenoid) by searching for a ground to correctly function and essentially this burns up the coil.

i have a problem that this room might help with. i just bought a 90 mustang that was converted from a 4-cyl to a 351W. when i try to crank it, it clicks at the relay behind the left fender but no other noise or engine turnover. the starter was already replaced twice and the batt. is new. any ideas??
