Belt/pulley squeal in the morning

Greetings to all,

Have an 09 V6 that just passed 25,000 miles and was made 36 months ago. Live in Miami where its humid this time of year and warm too. Last few weeks when I start my pony in the morning she has an irritating squeal for about 5 or 10 minutes that goes away until I fire it up the next morning. Doesnt seem to happen near as much on the way home from work as it does on the way to work.

Belt looks fine and while some of the pulley bolts look a little rusty all seems in order. All accessories seem to be working fine.

What is best way to approach this? I suspect belt is cooler in the morning and it may be a tension issue that goes away when belt warms up, but welcome thoughts from you experts. Is the belt going or does it just need to be tightened or should I look to see which pulley is squeaking and get something to lube it with?

I change oil regularly, have a JLT CAI with Bama 93 street tune and Magnaflow muffler but dont think any of these things are playing a part.

Thanks in advance,
Ken :-)

1st, what part of miami you from? I would check the idler pulley @ check if the screw is loose. have you had your car serviced at a Jiffy Lube or one of those 10min lube shops?
those guys usally end up messing up something on your car due to their lack of knowledge. also inspect your belt for any cracks.
maybe its not your belt.

I would guess a squeaky pulley before a bad belt. Grab a can of WD-40 with a straw attachment. When the car makes the noise, spray a tiny amount in the center of your idle or tension pulley. If the sound goes away, then you know which pulley you have to replace.

Defiant,

Sorry for the slow reply - was away on a work trip. I live near Tamiami/Kendall and in fact did take my stang to a Jiffy Lube a few months ago. Decided after that to change my own oil and just take old oil to Advance Auto.

Thanks Clutch!

Will give a good look over this weekend if we dont get too much rain from this hurricane...
Ken :-)
