How many cats do i need for smog?

I got straight pipes on my foxbody, found an exhaust complete with 02sensors, cats and mufflers. Only thing is there's only one cat on each pipe wondering how many I need cats I needed for smog. And will that exhaust do?

Are you taking CA smog?

If so, you need four, and they need to either be OEM or OBD2-spec replacements. Basically, everything has to either be stock or have a CARB EO number.

If you're talking somwhere else, then I can't really help you... laws vary state to state.

I don't feel cats are a bad thing. If you ever visted LA in the early '90s versus now, you'd see the huge difference in air quality that's come from having our emission controls. If it takes a couple cats under my car so that I get to breathe clean air, I'm all for it.

That being said, I think CA goes a little overboard; I mean, if it passes the sniffer it shouldn't matter how I'm set up.
