General Brake Question
Why do brakes tighten up if you push the pedal when the car is off? Then when u turn it on they loosen back to normal.
I know that when you press the pedal, when its on, it pushes a piston on the master cylinder which compresses the brake fluid that pushes the piston that holds the brake pads onto the rotor. So how would they tighten up when the car is off?

Because the power brakes on today's cars are vacuum assisted units. This vacuum is only created with the engine running. No vacuum, no power brakes = harder pedal.
