Heater Not working ?
I need to keep this short, im only on my lunch break, so Ill give more detail later.
But as said, my heater is not working properly. No leak, no smell. Fluids are full. Car over heated twice after I changed the fluid and tried to bleed the air out of the tube (This is a 2004 V6). Also changed the thermostat. Hasn't over heated in a few days. But the heater is still acting up, occasionally it works, others it doesn't. When its not working, the two hoses to the heater core are NOT warm at all. When the heat finally does start to work, the hoses ARE hot. I leave the vent on, turned to heat, with the fan on high. Car can be running for 5 mins or 30 mins and be at full temp and it wont work. All the sudden w/o touching anything it'll start blowing hot air, go out and feel the hoses and they are hot. So a question I have, is their any kind of valve that controls the water flow through the heater coil? Looked in my Chiltons and cant seem what I need to know, and searching it here and on google hasn't gotten me far. I dont think its air, I rebuild this engine and finished in may. Ran the heat A LOT since then, and this problem has just started the last couple of weeks ... Its getting cold here now and Ill need to defrost my windows in the morning ... |

dunno man, mine has been having a crazy thing with the heater this year too. I can fill the coolant mix and the heater will work great for a day or two, then go back to cold. Burp the system and find a few bubbles, but nothing to change the coolant level, and it will start again, then stop.
I am sourcing parts to do the GT Radiator conversion, doing it when I install the cam after Christmas, and hoping that the different style of coolant expansion tank will help to circulate the coolant better. I feel like I am losing coolant somewhere, but oil is the color is should and I park in my garage every night and no drips.

Sounds like you're losing coolant somewhere. It might be a small slow leak but that's sometimes what causes the heat to act like that. Do you notice any residue anywhere in the engine bay from where coolant could possibly be leaking out? Or maybe the lower hose is leaking coolant straight to the ground? Maybe the overflow tank has a small crack in it? All possibilities.

I would suspect a leak and/or air bubbles somewhere. Try bleeding the system on an incline?

I know you said "end thread" but id just like to say you were right about the air pocket.. Just had this same problem of an air pocket forming which lead to the same heater problems as you, and it also triggered a code. Fixed now though

lol hope it helped if any lol
Hard to find info/help on this. I simply instead of "bleeding the air" I just filled my coolent at the radiator. capped it, then filled the rest up at the bleeder, put the bolt back in and it ran perfect. Checked it the next day after it ran a bunch just to see if I needed to add any. Fuck that bleeding process, just fill it from the top, worked just fine cause the V6 is set up atleast where that pipe will bypass the thermostat and fill fluid to both sides of it. |

Would like to share though that, I researched the hell out of the quick disconnect heater hoses before I looked at mine.
Talked about a special tool and retainers you have to replace ... on my 04, you pinch 2 plastic pieces together (hard cause of tight fit) and wiggle a little and they'll pull right off, line up and push back one. Dont be stupid and shit wont break ... literally if you get your hands/fingers just right in the tight spot it take 2 seconds to diss connect ... |
