2011 GT: Do I need a Vapor Canister?
I scuffed up my cars rear this morning. I was quoted $900 fo replace the rear valence and put on a new Emissions System Vapor Canister.
My most likely course of action is to replace the valence with the GT500 valence. But for the vapor canister, can I get rid of it entirely? I don't have emissions or have an idea what this thing is used for? Anyone got a clue of it's use? |

You need it. It traps gasoline vapors from the tank especially during refuel. Then the purge valve sends the vapors to your intake to be burned during certain driving conditions. If you were to remove and cap the system, you would have excessive pressure in your tank. You would also notice the gas pump shutting off before you tank was full of gas. If you were to leave the system open you would smell gas fumes almost all the time. You would also have a CEL regardless of how you would run the system. Just buy another one, it will be much less of a headache.
