need more bite @ the track

I’m running a 79 mustang with 26” Hoosiers, 31 spline Moser axle, 4.56 gear, spool, Lakewood traction action lift bars, comp engineering 50/50 rear shocks, aluminum driveshaft, T-5. The problem I am having right now I cannot get this thing to hook at the track. The slicks are only a couple months old, I have tried them at 8 pounds 10 pounds, they really push hard when trying to do a burn out in second gear so I’m thinking it should get out of the gate. I leave @ 4000 to 4500 and it’s like this thing is on a dirt road, when I go to second gear some wheel spin little sideways-ness 3rd is better 4th I can hear the slicks break. I have the moroso trick springs up front…….any thoughts . thanks

How much power does the car have? What 60's and 330's are you running? What are you running for the front suspension? What's your burnout procedure?

try not launching it so high and hows the track prep. if the track isnt prepped its gonna suck all the time no matter what tire your running. have you played around with the suspension adjustments at all?

the track is pretty good to be honest, they sweep and spray it through the night, now i have been at other tracks that dont i understand that. i'm thinking i might need a taller tire but don't want to lose my gear in the trade. i can launch @ 3000 go to second get tire spin and the slick is coming loose at the big end of the track in 4th gear

What are all the details of the car? What engine, what rear upper and lower control arms, what is the full size of the rear tires, and any more info you can give. If you are losing tracking on the big end you are either making alot of horsepower, have too small of a tire or have a suspension that is way out of whack.

Do you have the front sway bar removed? Does the rear squat or lift when you launch the car? What is your pinion angle set at? Which bars do you have?

#1

or #2

You should have no problem hooking with what you have. If you have the bars pictured in #2 I'd be willing to bet your pinion angle is off.

I have set #1 the front sway bar has been removed, i'm running the lower control arm in the lowest position in the bracket. I had my wife try and run the cam corder, but i may as well asked the guard rail to do it she was filming the sky, the stands and not me on the track. I watch what i could see and it looks like the car leaves with a little lift but i can see the tail moving around

You probably could make use out of a 28x10.5 tire but I believe there are issues elsewhere if the car is skating around that bad right now. In all honesty I would throw the moroso springs out and use stock springs and also put some adjustable struts in the front so you can tune the rise and fall of your front end. You should be able to launch that car at any rpm and get it to hook. I can't say much about the Lakewood bars you have because I've never used that picture #1 style of control arm. Is there any way you can adjust pinion angle by rotating the rear axle with your control arms?

Twist 2 Go ....there is some down push to the rear, but not to much nor i'm as strong as that gas burner either.
Darrell i was thinking on the 90/10 front struts first to see if that helps. I made a change to the rear with the air bag because a by stander at the track told me it was dipping real hard on the right side at launch and even pulling the left fron tire up, so in went the air bag

also by lowering the bar in the differant position on the brackett changes the pinion angle the lower setting is suppose to be for maxium traction

Lowering the bar changes the intersection point. Having it in the lowest position in the rear should hit the tires the hardest. Pump some air in the air bag and see what happens.

You need an angle finder 1st of all for #2 picture. They are the exact same thing as southside machine lift bars. Which is what I had on my 90 lx. They hook up good but will tear up the torque boxes quick if you dont weld them up. Do a search on lakewoods site they have a pdf file on the instructions for setting pinion angle and welding those up.
