I wouldn't pay any attention to the Autozone guys advice for interpreting the trouble codes, just because you've got a code relating to an EGR part doesn't mean the part is bad. What are the exact codes you were getting?

probably got a p0401-lack of egr flow. Autozone doesn't sell the dpfe sensor required to fix it but they do sell the valves (which btw, never go bad anymore) so they sold you a egr valve that didn't fix it. Funny part is, the dpfe sensor is covered under a Ford extended coverage program for an additional 2yrs/24K miles on most 2002+ vehicles. It could also cause the stalling concern as well but it might need an iac valve as well.

Twist.... he has a 2000. Which is a DPFE car. hahaha. I know so many people who replace the EGR and then come to my dealership and complain the light is still on. I run codes and almost everytime they have the p0401.
P1400 - DPF EGR Sensor Circuit Low Voltage Detected P1401 - DPF EGR Sensor Circuit High Voltage Detected P0401 - EGR Flow Insufficient Detected P0402 - EGR Flow Excessive Detected All of these codes can be caused by this DPFE. It can cause stalling like Twist said. Its for 2000-2003( <--- some ) Mustangs. 4.6 /3.8 . The focus is the worst, but have done Mustangs, F-150's... blah blah blah. The DPFE, will cause the EGR to come on and off, or not come on or off. haha. And if you started stalling when pushing in the clutch, or at stop lights Check the IAC. You can remove this sensor and tap it on something solid and you will get droplets of water out of it. Federal 3 Years/36,000 Miles - Current Warranty Coverage 5 years/60,000 Miles- Total (9J460) Warranty Coverage California Emissions* 3 Years/50,000 Miles - Current Warranty Coverage 5 Years/74,000 Miles - Total (9J460) Warranty Coverage Sorry to keep this post going... but i saw it and had to chime in. Just REPLACE THE DAMN SENSOR!!!! And be done with it. ![]() Casper

BTW: Next time you have a check engine light on in youre 4.6..... go to the 4.6 section and check TSB's and REcalls first. save you time and im sure the 4.6 guys can answer youre questions better then in general tech section.
