Question for Convertible Owners with Cell Phones

Has anyone here added the Ford Bluetooth hands free phone system that is voice activated and plays through the car speakers?

I'm considering adding this option because, with the top down and sterio playing, I can't hear my cell phone when it rings and with the wind noise, it's difficult to carry on a conversation with my hand held.

I was wondering how well the Ford Microphone works with the top down. I'm sure I'd be able to hear the other party because I can turn the volume up as loud as needed.

Thanks in advance.

I know it sounds yuppyish, and I used to make fun of these people, but i bought a blue tooth headset and it works perfect for convertible owners. Im not sure how well the ford setup would workout. I would imagine that there would be a alot of noise from the wind on the phone... Just my 2 cents...

You know a bluetooth headset works fantastic and only costs you 49.99 or so. I highly recommend this as I have one and I love it. Plus when you stop the vehicle you can just keep talking to whoever it is you are speaking with. I would think that a mic being so far from your body would not work well in a convertible environment.

Not sure if this will help. I was in the Cingular store a while back and the salesman was talking about a new bluetooth headset. I think it was called the jawbone or jawbreaker, something to that affect. Anyway he was saying that it was military grade. He was saying that the noise cancelling is second to none. He was saying that you could hear perfectly in a tank. He also stated that works in a convertable with the top down as if you were in the house with no wind. I have no idea if that is true, thought I would give a heads up on it. It also runs about $170.

I know that the bluetooth headsets work great but, I very seldom use the phone and would end up wearing the headset for nothing most days.

The benifit to the built in unit is that it automatically shuts down the sterio with an incoming call. You can then answer the call by voice command or by pressing the answer button (if it's included in Ford's kit). My wife has one in her BMW but it's not a convertible. My main concern is how the wind noise would effect my voice going to the microphone and if the person on the other end would simply hear wind noise.

If I need to go with the headset, so be it but I was hoping to hear from someone who had the Ford built in installed in a convertible.

Thank you for your thoughts and info 1FastFox, CarRamRod and THnCS.

Any convertible owners out there with a Ford built in?
