twin turbo

what all does a mustang GT need to handle twin turbos, or if the 302 can handle it?

it would be able to take a turbo but up to a certain point on the 302's, beter off getting a 351 or a dart block and start with forged internals and go from there

how bout an 03/04 Cobra? you can turbo that and not have to do anything to the engine right? besides take off the supercharger. butttt, i was just thinking. i heard about Volkswagen's Twincharger engine where they use a supercharger for the low RPM levels and then at the higher RPM levels a turbo kicks in. do you think this would be possible for an 03/04 Cobra?

Just buy a big fucking engine, why over engineer this shit? You're still burning extra fuel from the supercharger and a lot more fuel for the turbo. You're not saving anything.

Not hammering Rando, just the idea in general.

If my understanding of turbos is correct, it would be redundant to have a super and a turbo. That's why there are twin turbos for low and high rpms.

I'm just going to rattle off some internet knowledge that might shed some light:

taken from the 100% accurate wikipedia.org: (sarcasm)
By having a turbocharger feed air into a supercharger several benefits are gained: The supercharger will generate a set amount of positive manifold pressure (boost) without delay, thus increasing exhaust gas volume and spooling up the turbocharger to operating RPM in less time. As the engines air demands approach the limits of the superchargers efficiency, the turbocharger is providing an increasing amount of air to the supercharger then it would normally have available. All pressure the supercharger receives from the turbocharger is driven through it, relieving mechanical resistance on the supercharger's drive pulley. This helps reduce drag within the engine, increasing power delivery and efficiency.

What the fuck? First, when did a supercharger have lag? Second, I guess I can put 8 turbos and 2 superchargers on my car, because you can compress gas until a gallon of air at standard atmospheric pressure fits in a thimble and you don't have to worry about the fact that the air is now at 500*F, before it enter the cylinder. Detonation rules. Fucking wiki-tards.

Centrifugal superchargers have lag, but positive displacement blowers do not. Not at all. And you cant ask a basic question like can the engine handle twin turbos... Its not specific enough because the answer is yes and no. If you slap on twin turbos and make enough boos to about 400whp. Then yeah. But if you decide you wanna shoot boost to 20psi you'll either blow a head gasket at peak boost or worse. You'd snap a rod or two in half. Maybe more. Even the 03/04 cobra has its limitations. Pulley the stock eaton for high boost and you'll suffer the same. There is no "Invincible engine". A dart 4-bolt 302 block with a fully forged rotating assembly could break at 200 hp with a bad tune. There are too many variables to consider... Hell you didnt even give much information on the vehicle "YOU'RE" talking about. You could be speaking of any mustang GT between the years of 1965 and the present.

Its not saying that the supercharger has lag. Its saying that turbos have lag. The supercharger is feeding air right from the get-go and this insta-boost helps spool the turbo even quicker than usual. Then, when the supercharger reaches maximum boost (much lower than a turbo) the turbo is spooled and boosting THROUGH the supercharger even more than the supercharger could do by itself. Its a transition. Supercharger affects the low-end and turbo kicks in in the higher end...

IMO, stupid idea...waste of money...just pick one or the other. The price to have a supercharger and a turbo just isnt worth it...People and thier sky high ideas these days...

i wasn't speaking of this specifically...People have other stupud ideas around here as well. Like an 03 cobra blower on 2v heads, or mounting a turbo on a single bank of cylinders...
