Do i need mil eliminators


i have a 1988 gt mustang 5.0. I just put new headers on and i wanted to know if i did away with the cats if i need mil eliminators. My sensors are in front of the cats. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!

welcome to the site! you dont need them but you are going to get a check engine light without them.

you do not deen them. there wont be any ses light because it is an obd1 system. there are no sensors behind the cats, and i believe they are only 2 wire sensors.

so if i do away with the cats, and the check engine lite comes on the motors performance wont be affected? (such as newer mustangs)

If the O2 sensors are in front of the cats, you cannot eliminate them. They determine fuel/air ratio. Your car will not run well and gas mileage will suffer. The rear downstreams can be eliminated....with care. An '88 5.0... how many O2 sensors? Newer ones have 4, one for each side before and after the cat. If you were in Illinois, it would be NBD since cars as old as yours with NO obdII are not tested anymore. But I wouldn't toss the front O2 sensors. Besides, some header have a boss welded in the accomodate the front O2 sensor.
