I have a rear gear problem-please help

OK here's the deal- I have a 2003 GT and it is a daily driver. When I drive it to and from work ( about 8 miles), I don't have any problems. However, if I drive it a while ( 50+ miles or so) it begins to sound like the rear gears are binding when I turn at slow speeds. Has anyone had this problem or know what the problem might be??

rear diff clutches are grabbing. Replacing the gear oil and additive might help but Ford also has some new carbon-fiber diff clutches out to address this concern as well. If you're still under warranty, should be covered w/ no problem.

I'm not under warranty anymore. I haven't opened up the rearend at all. It still has stock 3.26 gears with 39000 miles on them. How much money am I looking at to fix this problem if I have to go into the rearend? Also, is this a common problem with this model??

yes, it's fairly common although we replace them in the trucks and expeditions more frequently. the clutch kit is around $125 or so and installation takes about 1-2 hrs depending on your skill level.

What do I need to do to properly assess the situation, and where do I need to get the parts from? ( Ford dealer? )
