Street Legal Exhaust for a V6

Hey guys I have a '95 v6 vert. I want to Mod the exhaust. I know I want a dual exhaust. The number one requirement is that it be 100% street legal. I live in VA so I do have to pass emissions. After that, I want the best POWER GAIN possible (and still be street legal!). Finally, I want a nice deep throaty american sound. I know that my 3.8 will never sound like a 5.0. However, I know that it can sound better than stock. I know that www.americanmuscle.com sells an adapter kit for the v6 that basically turns the stock y-pipe into an h-pipe and then allows you to hook up any catback exhaust that would bolt onto a GT of the same model year. Does that sound like a good option? If so, what cat should I get? I'm open to all sorts of options and suggestions. Also what kind of total price tag am I looking at? I know a lot of you out there know alot more about this than I do. I would really appriciate all the advice I can get. Thanks.

flowmaster and mac are the best sounding on our cars. You would need the H pipe adapter like you said. from there you could get a custom exhaust from an exhaust shop or GT take offs or any setup for a GT.

To stay legel you must have stock or shorty headers and you must have cats.. if you get HI-Flow cats you will still be legal.
feel free to PM me if you have any other questions

magnaflow = good performance

So how much difference is there in sound and performance between a flowmaster or a mac cat as opposed to a magnaflow cat? As I said, for me performance is more important. However, I really DON'T want to sound like an import. I really want the low throaty american sound. Do you have any idea what the difference in HP gain would be for each brand?

Also, I'm a little worried about a Mac exhaust. I hear that they tend to rust from the inside almost as soon as you put them on. I really don't want that to happen. I also wanted to know if I will need to get anything in terms of new sensors.

they have a little different sound, your not going to be able to tell much in the way of HP gains becuase it will be so small. that being said you should go for sound..... you can go on youtube and listen to all the exhaust clips and decide what you like the best
