Kenne Bell

Well a buddy I met through stangnet bit the bullet and ordered up his Kenne Bell. He asked me to do the install so he could watch and learn. He's payin me so I'm not being the great friend, but it's gonna cost him less than half what he would be charged, and he's gaining some good knowledge looking over my shoulder.

I started into the car tonite doing some of the light disassembly. Mainly because I'm not sure how large of chunks of time I'll have this weekend. Like anybody, he wants to drive the car so even if I only have 30 minutes of free time, I'll be spending it in the garage with him. I'll come in and add photos as I get free time. Some things may hold this up as I sent in the upper intake and the coolant crossover pipe for polish work. (got him a steal on that as well) Hoping it's back to me by Saturday. He's loading his cold air intake and predator on ebay, I'll also pull that link over here incase anyone is interested.

Here's a pic of the parts off loaded into my garage followed by some of the motor getting into it's nakedness.

The next two pics are singled out so you guys see how the polish work turns out. The upper intake is an ugly hunk of aluminum..

The Kenne Bell is widely considered the best blower hands down among the 03-04 cobra world.

Most mustang owners with the Ford Eaton that have converted will tell you there is no comparison in terms of power and efficiency.

Like ManO said, 270 is an easy feat without running any harder or creating too much excess power robbing heat.

KB has their shit together.

How do KB and Whipple compressors compare performance wise? What displacement compressor are you putting on the GT?

ManO: What displacement compressor are you running to give you your 270hp increase on your 5.4l?

Are there any Performance/Efficiency maps available for the KB compressors? They don't have any on the KB site.

Thats on a cobra motor so you can throw mass boost at that set up. The 05-08 GT's have a far weaker rotating assembly so you not going to get anywhere near a 9.93 with a stock bottom ended s-197.

Funny you should ask Juco.

We have run into a problem that can go two ways here. First off, the car fires on the stock tune and idles fine, snappy throttle, whole nine yards. I upload the Kenne B tune and the fuel pressure sky rockets to 50psi and a no start condition occurs obviously..

Been working with KB over the last week now. They say it isn't a tune issue. They have sent two other xcals, one of which did the same exact thing as noted above. The other came with a new stock calibration and they didn't tell me they did that. Had I known I would not have used it. It over wrote the stock PCM calibration and now I have a no start condition on both stock and Custom KB tune.

They have been workin with both myself and the owner of the car in diagnosing the issue. As of now I think I got 20 total hours into this car for an obvious pcm/xcal issue.

The two potential problems are: 1. Bad Xcal's - my gut says no way. 2. PCM was overwritten by a dealer prior to current owner taking ownership. It was a used car so it is possible. It would be a matter of accessing the HEX files with a high end obd2 scanner. I have a family member who is bringing it in from his dealership tomorrow. KB also sent out a new Xcal 2 to see if it's a programmer issue.

Cars been done for some time, just collecting dust while they figure out why we are having the tune issues.

Here's a few shots as it sits:

CAI and new MAF location:

CAI flexible hose entry to engine compartment:

New SOS pillar and gauges:

Boost sensor:

New washer bottle location:

Polished work is back:

Manifold in:

Blower in:

My custom work for the under hood pressure gauge and pressure sender, got a little bling factor out of the deal:

Driver side rail:

How's that for clearance:

Alright cars, done, fired and test driven. Ended up being that the stock PCM was flashed sometime during the previous owners maintenance routine. Typicall of Ford service they didn't label the PCM with the new calibration code.

So we spent the last 9 days on conference calls with KB. We sent back the 2nd xcal 1 box that had stolen / overwritten his stock tune and they cracked it for the necessary information. Once they did that everything was fine.

Car rips good, only at 7#. With that pulley it doesn't whine like most KB cars do. I'll see about a video sometime in the near future..
