GT Duals on a V6

OK some dumb *** rear ended me. So now I'm going to get a GT bumber on my non GT. I was wondering if a stock 05-06 GT dual exhaust work on a 4.0 v6 and will it sound ok?

You could buy the GT midpipe and cat back and bumper and sound like a V6 still.

as above mentioned the gt exhaust will work but not truely bolt-on without modification, you will have to get a shop do some cutting and welding to your existing y-pipe. i'm pretty sure you will need to get the extra exhaust hanger too since your's only has 1.

+1. I wonder how much louder it would be with flowmaster 40s?

And your point is?

Do you think your car sounds like a V8? It doesn't...it sounds like a V6. And it sounds loud and annoying and ricey at high RPMs....as do all the loud V6s.

IMO, I think that V6s should sound mellow and smooth, NOT like a V8. V8s are rumbly and sound good...V6s dont.

BUT, that's just My opinion.

BUT, that's just My opinion.
I never once said my car sounds like a v8 and the most aggressively cammed, p&p'd heads/intakes v6 will never sound like a v8 due to the even firing order of the essex motor.

It will not always sound "annoying and ricey at high RPMS... as do all loud V6s." Have you heard the SSMS 4.3L N/A V6 run 10's all motor? That car sounds better than most extremely modded V8's due to the aggressive cam and larger ported heads and intake.

Your opinion is unsubstantiated, but you are entitled to it.

After seeing "GT" over and over in the original post, I don't want him to spend money and be dissapointed making the GT exhaust work and maintain a V6 sound.

That's cool...

No, I've never heard that car, but would like to.

So, just because I haven't heard ONE particular car my opinion is unsubstantiated??? And yours of course is, because you have heard said car....right?

Basically, every V6 that I have heard...and I have heard a lot....on the internet and in person....sounds ricey and annoying at high RPMs. Just because that ONE car sounds great, doesn't negate the fact that almost every other V6 with a modded exhaust sounds annoying and ricey at high RPMs or somewhere in the powerband.

BTW, that car probably has several thousands of dollars invested in it which not many people can do, so most people end up with a ricey sounding mustang.

But it IS a V6 sound. Stop saying "maintain a v6 sound". It will always be a V6 sound. This is why people get frustrated, because they are mislead. They think "My car won't sound quite like a V8, but it won't sound like a V6"...but it will always sound like a V6 regardless/.

You are new or unaqcuainted with the V6 performance community aren't you? Browse v6power.net for a clue. There are dozens of sub 12 second v6 mustangs with the 3.8, 4.2 and 4.3L motors running 300-600+ rwhp and sound amazing doing it with open exhaust from the collector pipe and with full kits.

Your opinion was unsubstantiated because you made the quoted comments with no or irrelevant facts. There is a growing v6 community that may not have reached the likes of you yet, but research it, note that I did not claim to have a "v8 sounding v6" (as you claimed I did) at any point whatsoever, and that my experience substantiates my claims.

There are hundreds of different sounds to be achieved with different setups ranging in header length/diameter, midpipe constructions, muffler construction, and dumps/turn downs/tips.

If someone wants a "throaty" sound that an uneven firing v8 makes, they will not get it with a mildly modded v6. You can achieve that sound very closely with the right combination, but the one mentioned in the first post won't do it.

btw...I had a 4.2L F150...I am new to the V6 mustang scene. My truck was highly modified.

I traded it for a GT. Which I modified.

I traded it for a 5.4L F150. Which is modified.

Now I'm going back to a V6 Mustang. So, if you want to spit experience crap at me, I think I have more total experience...whatever...who cares. All the V6s still sound like V6s. We have a difference of opinion. I don't feel like spending thousands and thousands on my car in mods so it doesn't sound ricey.

Oh, and thanks for pointing out there are other forums, I thought this was the only one...maybe now I can get a clue...

Which confuses me. And there are hundreds of Mustang sites, MM just happens to be the best source for tech info and the ultimate mustang performance modding community. If you don't want to dump thousands of dollars, you don't have to- that is just one end of the spectrum of "performance modding"
