Just looking for your opinions ...

Well I finally have a property with a garage and have decided to pick up my first classic mustang restore / mod job. I was debating with myself between a solid restoration or a modified Mustang job. Well, come to find out my mother-in-law has had a mustang parked in her garage for close to 20 years. She tells me it's a '67 or '69, is a G.O. model (????), and has a v-8 (so yeah, she has a classic mustang and does not even know what it is). She want's $500 for it .. hmm.. those 2 years are great, I'd take any mustang, and for $500 .. I tell her deal.

Come to find out, her husband tells me it is a 1972 Mustang GHIA 2 (??? '72 GHIA ???), has a new engine with less than 100 miles on it and everything else is original. Body / Paint / etc .. is in good condition. Hmm.. well I already know I am not restoring that car .. so I already decided Mod Job. But I'd like to know some other peoples opinions on it. The GHIA, to my knowledge, did not exist in 1972, so I am looking at a 74-78 Mustang GHIA 2, original Paint is Maroon with gold/yellow trim ...

Do I Mod it, Restore it, or just get rid of it and pick me up a better vehicle to play with.

A little backgroud .. I am very mechanically inclined, but have never done a retore or classic mod job. I am thinking that I could mess this GHIA up and not feel bad about it .. or I could do some really neat mods to it. It starts up, and needs minimal work to get on the road .. but sorry folks.. I am not into drive a restored Ghia, possibly a modded on .. you kn ow add some muscle, make it growl, ... hmm.. now how large of an engine can I put in that .. it has the v-8 302 . .but if I remember right .. that has minimal horse power during that time period ..

Ok .. enough rambling .. I am suppose to pick the car up and will post some pics .. decide what I am going to do .. an d keep you all posted .. who knows .. by the time I am done .. the only GHIA part left on the car could be the VIN number.

In regards to general tech .. what are the best non-GHIA mods that have done to these cars???

Welcome to the forums. We have a new member section, so perhaps by introducing yourself over there more people will get to know you.

I've not heard of a G.O. model. Perhaps she meant GT?

Personally I'm not a huge fan of the Mustang II, especially when compared to the 67 - 69 cars.

yeahh...that's kinda what I was thinking. something more recent/common might be better for modding, because you'll have more options to choose from, could be more fun. But then again, if you like something that's a little different...that one might do the trick.
