Mid Pipe and Smog Question

I recently got a 95 mustang 5.0 litre. It already has a MAC Catback exhaust. I want to add an x pipe with no cats. I was just wondering if the stock cats will bolt on to it, so that it will pass smog in the future? or would have to put on the stock mid pipe everytime i needed to pass smog? Thanks

well the cats will not bolt onto an o/r mid pipe..you would have to cut x-pipe and weld them in..i suggest just putting catted one back in...what every other year ( thats how it is in mass, dunno bout you?)

There is a company out there who makes it so you can just bolt on the cats for inspection time.

I forget who it is offhand though.

Could i just put on the stock mid pipe with the stock cats, for when the car needs to be smogged?

Personally, I don't see why it couldn't be possible, but I'm kind of the rookie here so I don't know, but I would really like to see that work.

One last question. What is the horsepower difference from an x or h pipe with cats or without cats?

ok to you're first question, yes you can easily just remove the non-catted mid-pipe and slip the catted original one back in

and to this quote...an h-pipe is made a little more towards sound and is supposed to add about 10-15hp, and the x-pipe w/ some cat-backs tends to be a little raspy in sound, a little louder too, but it will out HP it usually from about 15-25..but to some the raspiness for an extra couple HP isnt worth it..but with say flowmasters and an X-pipe its loud, rumbly and not very raspy at ll if any...
