I have a 1996 Mustang GT Convertible. I installed Cobra 17 X 9 Wheels and new tires. I added 2" rear wheel spacers and a sub box with 2- 10" & a amplifier to the trunk. I believe the suspension is all original & wore out. The car is coming down on the tires at some point & the fender wells have cut my new tires to pieces. They are trash now & I have got to buy 2 more rear tires. I don't want to remove the wheel spacers because the rear tires look like they are tucked under the car & closer together than the front tireswithout them. I want to fix the problem before I go buy 2 new tires. Anyone have some suggestions?????????

Well, The problem is I am not sure when it is doing it to be able to check it. It may be Bumps, It may be on uneven surfaces, It may be when under accellaration. I am not sure. I am wondering if Springs, Coil Overs, or Adjustable Lower Control Arms would solve this problem and keep the back end from dropping down but I still want it to handle good.

You may need to go with a smaller spacer. I have a 1.5" spacer in the rear and it looks so much better and no problem with rubbing. if your using a 2" spacer and wide tires its going to rub you either need less wide tires or a slightly smaller spacer.

just buy a 10.5 wheel for the back and don't use spacers... they aren't always reliable

I had this problem when I went from 265/35/18's to 305/35/18's. I found out that the only time it hit was when I hit big bumps or when I pulled into parking lots over the uneven terrian. It mostly happened when the rear end articulated over the uneven road surfaces. So, I had to also get new tires and before I bought new ones I rolled the fender to get more clearance. If you look you will see that your fender has the lip and that is what's cutting up your tires. The easy and cheap way to fix it is to do it yourself. You will have to bend that lip up in order to get the clearance needed but you will have to be careful in doing this so that you don't mess up the exterior body line. Bending this lip will chip the paint under your fender but nothing visible, then you can get it repainted. If you want to do it the right way go to a body shop and ask them to roll your rear fenders and repaint the chiped area and your problem will no longer be a problem. That is how to fix your problem!

P.S. IMHO I wouldn't recommend spacers to anyone, they aren't reliable and they're dangerous. I suggest that you get wider wheels and tires to be on the safe side and it gives your car a more aggressive look with the bigger meats on the back!!!!!!!!

I'd throw the spacers in the garbage before they come back and bite you in the ass. Wide wheel spacers are dangerous.

I took them off and replaced the tires for the time being. I am going to rework the suspension and then worry with the stance look. My interests are divided right now. I am looking at buying a 86 SVO in mint condition with a 4 cyclinder beefed up to 300HP.

Or Roll the fenders with a basball bat to get the look you want
