fuel pump issues

hi, this is a long story so bare with me. I have an 86 mustang 5.0 gt and it started giving back on the power when i would push the accellorator. then one day it died back and I pressed the accellorator and it cut off and would not crank back. now the mechanic has it and has been scratching his head for a month. they replaced the fuel pump and it still wouldn't crank, then they found a crack in the distributor and replaced that, now it cranks but when you press on the accellorator to take off it cuts off. they went back to the fuel pump and put yet another one on and that still didn't correct the problem. could it be the relay? they have checked all the wire harnesses and put new plugs and wires on and also changed the fuel filter and checked the injectors. i'm getting desperate at this point and they are telling me they have tried everything. if anyone can help i would appreciate it greatly.
