Oppinions on Flowmaster American Thunder series and more needed...

I got the Flowmaster American Thunder with 50 Series Mufflers on my car now ('95 GT auto). And now Im wonderin what to put on it to make it sound better, mid-pipe wise ya know. Guy from school says it sounds ricey and I'll admit I wish it did sound a little deeper and more throaty than it does. But whata you guys think about this system and what do ya think I otta do next? Wish I was a better welder then I'd just jack my car up and open up the cats with a torch and knock the shit outa there and weld it back up. Is there a way to clean that shit out cuz it does seam like its kinda clogged sounding to me...

Get a high flow h-pipe or an off road pipe.

Well put.

Installation for both mid pipe designs is basically the same, and it shouldnt cost more for one or the other. Sound wise, the H-pipe will give more of a "muscle car" sound. Its very throaty and deep.. and most of the time is louder than an X-pipe at part throttle and moderate cruising speeds. An H-pipe will make the most noise at WOT.

An X-pipe, for the most part, isnt quite as loud as an H. Its exhaust tone is smooter, and more refined. It flows better than the H does, so you'll pick up a little bit of power with it compared to the H. X-pipes do a better job of equalizing exhaust freqeuncys and pulses, and help to promote better exhaust scavenging (i know this is more than you wanted to know, but it cant hurt). At WOT, most X-pipes will sound higher pitched.. and smooter. Kinda comparible to how NASCAR's sound at 9000rpms. X-pipes also normaly cost a little bit more than H's do, but they're a better design.. so the money is worth it. Good luck.

LOL Just get an H pipe if you wanna be loud. Thats what i was saying, just slighty more technical.

WOT= Wide Open Throttle.

if you really want flowmasters to sound MEAN get a set of longtubes and a shorty H pipe. that really wakes them up but if your not into gettin headers right now id say go with an o/r H
