convertible hard tops from smoothline.com

To All

Ive been in touch with Gary Fessenegger - Smooth LIne Smooth Line Custom Removable Hardtops (gfussenegger@yahoo.com)

who are a company that makes hard tops for verts....they presently make a top for the 99-04 that looks very much like the lines of the 05+ coupe

the news is that they will have the 05+ top ready for sales around mid 08

or maybe sooner if they get some marketing pressure from 05+ vert owners

present guide price is 'ball park' $2000 fully fitted in primer

or maybe a lower firmer price if they get some marketing pressure ....blah blah etc etc

while I like the idea of a retrofit power hard top for the vert 05+, im sure its gonna be pricey, and on what we see now, you will lose 2 back seats

the smoothline product should very closely resemble the lines of the 05+ coupe complete with side quarters.....and you get to keep your back seats

Anyway....just a post.....Im first on the list for a block forum purchase if we put some marketing presss.....well you know what i mean

Dave

I'm going to get one. I just received confirmation from NHRA that a convertible with removable top will tech as a hardtop. Convertibles are limited to 13.50 ET unless you install a certified roll bar, while hardtops are limited to 11.50.

I don't want to stop racing and I don't want to lower boost and try to go slower. I have been considering a roll bar, but didn't want to mess up my car.

This top, which costs about the same as a roll bar, let's me keep the car (body) stock and keep racing.

Sounds like a great idea. I've been knocking on the bar threshold for hardtops, but I really don't want to put a jungle jim in the car. I'll have to check the site out.

If my track gets serious about tech, I'm screwed. I dropped .3 off my best recently with the only change being excellent track prep, and now I'm under the hardtop limit.

Hate to reincarnate an old thread, BUT does anyone have one? I too would like to see it. I sent the company an email to see if they'd be releasing a version for 96-98 but I haven't heard back yet/.

According to them yes. It would definitely be unique to have, but a bit too expensive for me right now.

Many years back I almost bought a cobra with a stock hardtop! Remember the 95 cobra's actually had the removeable hardtop option, they were discontinued because of some type of complaint I think maybe weight or leaking from what I recall. Very rare to see those anymore. I read maybe only 500 were made.
There are some pics on this page: TheMustangSource.com | Timeline: 1995 Mustang
and here: Photo's

Anybody on the board have one of those? Pics?

Anyone else here have problems loading that website? It comes up on my computer with everything overlapping and a complete mess. I can't really get anywhere on it. I have OSX (MacBook Pro) and I tried the site on both Safari and Firefox. Hmmm.....

I did get a Smoothline top for my 2002 GT convertible. I got it in time for the 2008 racng season at Bandimere it Denver.

When you look at it keep a couple of things in mind. First, it's an aftermarket fiberglass top and it's fit is passable but short of a factory piece is never going to be perfect, especially for a top this big. Corvette or other small sports cars might be better. Second, my installer while being a good body shop, really wasn't into it and had no expereince with installing a top like this. Some trim was put on poorly and some was not put on at all. The missing trim got lost and I had to buy replacements, but I have not had the trim installed properly, yet. A good job for the off-season.

You can check it out at FQuick.com > Upload Your Car Pictures and Car Videos! - FQuick.com (goody2speed) or on my personal site Drag Racing - Doug Williams - Ft. Collins, Colorado
