Into a field at 70 mph
I own a 95 v6, all stock and very recently lost it through a turn and ran down the berm and into a field at around 70 mph. Ouch! Anyway, now my tires have extreme negative camber (about 2 inches). I inspected everything, and the tops of the strut towers are pushed up about 1/2 inch. everything else underneath looks fine, no cracked paint or wrinkles. Would this be causing all that camber and do you think it would be safe to remove the struts and try to flatten out the tops of the towers? Thank god i don't have any clunking noises. yet

yeah, she's def. tweaked, but considering i paid $4000 for the car with 40,000 orig. miles, i can't justify spending more than that at 140,000 mi. to put it on the frame rack. Anyway, struts are bent, got new ones from sachs. install tomorrow and will try to flatten the towers also.

I took it to a motorsports shop that has a frame rack, and the mech. said it would be all right to take the strut mounting brackets off and flatten the sheet metal back out. Once i got it all apart, i found that the strut mounting brackets take most of the stress and spread it out over a larger area. The metal that makes up the towers themselves is not very thick. Of course, the mounting brackets were also bent, so i got straight ones from the junkyard, smoothed everything back down, installed the struts, and torqued everything to spec. Camber's back where it belongs, i'm not wearing the tires, drives straight as an arrow, and after 500 miles torques are still good. Rides better now, too. All in all, it took about 3 hours not rushing. What seemed so major was actually pretty simple.

It's always a satisfying feeling when you fix something.
