Noise When Steering

Hey guys. I just got an '07 Mustang as my first car, don't know much at all about cars, and am not too good with all the lingo. But I need some major advice. About two weeks ago I started hearing a whining sound when I turn left or right without hitting the gas. The sound is probably there when I'm hitting the gas, but the beautiful hum of the V8 engine is just too powerful. So I brought the car to a Ford dealership, and they couldn't hear it. So I went back and showed them the sound, and the guy goes, "yeah, you've definitely got something there." So he takes another look at it, and when I go to pick up my car, the report has written on it that that is a normal powersteering moan for the Mustang. I'm sorry, but that's not normal. Everytime I hear it I feel like my baby's running with it's tail between it's legs. Having gone through different websites, it seems that many Mustang owners have been experiencing the same thing. How do I fix it? Thanks!

Goto a other dealer and test drive a new one on the lot and see if you can hear it on that one.

Mine does the same thing, but only if you steer it until you can't turn the wheel anymore or close to it. Happens with the Ranger and every Ford vehicle I can remember.

Check your power steering fluid. Did it to me for awhile, checked it, it was low, filled it up, and it didn't do it anymore.

I don't buy what the guy said at all !!! Power steering moan isn't normal on a mustang or any other car. My 06 doesn't moan and your 07 shouldn't either...your under warranty...make them get it right.

How long have you had it ? I would take it to the salesperson and threaten to return it.You might have to get a manager involved.

I have a97,and it doesnt mmoan like your saying a brand new GT does.

My 00 does the same thing. I checked the power steering fluid and it was find. It sounds like the belt. I'm thinking about trying some belt cleaner. I was doing 100 mph and the steering was great.

I got got some great advice from my son. Who is a great backyard mechanic. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Funny thing is that's what I use to tell him. Guess they do listen. (sometimes) :lala

Well since he has a warranty he might as well have Ford fix it...Take advantage of your warranty while you have it...

My 98 v6 used to do that. The guy at the shop said there was a leak from the steering rack. I just bought a 07 stang a week ago and i do hear a very faint moan when i turn the wheel but nothing compared to what i used to hear on my 98. It was definitely leaking as the power steering fluid level would go low in abt a week.

Test driving another one sounds like a good idea to me. The moan shouldnt be that audible on an 07.
