Shot Suspension, Do I need new struts?
I have a 2001 Mustang GT with auto transmission.
The vehicle has been lowered 1.5 inches with Eibach springs. However, when ever I go over any bumps and ruts in the road I can feel it (every crevice). The ride quality seems to be extremely harsh. Does this mean I need new struts or should I replace the stock springs? Also, the steering wheel fights with me when going over channels or bumps on the road. Is this bumpsteer? Help me with these 2 problems. Thanks |

lowered with eibachs or any spring w/o dampers (struts-front & shocks-rear) matched to them or something of the aftermarket you will have a harsh ride. new dampers will soften it some, but it will still be harsher than a stock ride...from my experiences (various cars of friends that ive helped with and riden in--neon, integra, camaro, mustang, wrx, s10, vettes) once spring rates change one need to compensate for that by getting shock/strutswith better valving and components...koni, tokico, bilstein. kyb is usually best only on stock vehicles. kyb gr2s dont help much once lowered (agx's may)--my expereinces with 3Gen Eclipses here/
yes you are feeling bumpsteer if it is only when you hit potholes, bumps crevices etc. if real bad steeda makes a kit for that, which probably does helpsome, but dont expect it to go away with being lowered. also get an alignment if not already done....and if money allows might as well swing for the caster/camber plates...an alignment can be done without them, but it would make aligning the car easier (easier to bring within spec). |
