Moroso Battery Disconnect Switch (External Cutoff) - Wiring
one of my buddies was looking at one of the moroso units for his truck, but after looking at the wiring diagrams came up with a few questions?
install instructions: http://www.moroso.com/catalog/images/74102_inst.pdf the instructions show running the following wiring: 2ga to the battery, 10ga to the alternator, and 2ga to the starter now my question is this, i understand running to the battery and alternator, but why the starter? once the vehicle is started the power is generated from the alternator if equipped, but his starter is powered via switched source from the distribution block, why not wire the lead to the distribution block and kill everything including the MSD box, which would inturn kill the starter? are there any NMRA/IHRA rules about this that require it to be wired to the starter?

It's not the power wire to the starter for the solenoid to kick in, they are talking about the main power feed wire to the starter solenoid. Think Ford, where all the power feeds originate off the fender mounted solenoid. the rules state that if the car is running, by flipping the switch to off, it will kill the engine. also, the if wire din this configuration, the solenoid has to be rated higher than the alternator output rating

I should state this is not for a mustang or f-series but rather a '99 Dodge Dakota, my question is this if the engine is running what good does it do killing the starter, wouldn't killing the alternator, battery and distribution box do the same thing, we are powering the MSD box through a previously empty fuse block in the box?

yes, you're not killing the starter, just the power going to it since the solenoid is mounted on it.
