Overdrive

My 00 mustang has an overdrive button on th side of the shifter. Does it disengage it self when you slow down or stop? And when is the best time to engage it? Never seen an overdrive button like that before and I've had lots ofdifferent types of cars. First mustang and will always have one for now on. :stickit

its an extra gear...basically a 5th gear. best to use it on the high way so you dont waste as much gas

you'll notice when you start going about 60-70mph your rpms will be high, hit the over drive n it'll go down

the button is for actually for cutting overdrive off, hence the light that illuminates on the console when you press it "O/D OFF". the best times to cut overdrive off is when your towing, driving in the mountians or doing racing where you want to stay in 4th and push higher RPM's. Also cutting O/D off will promote more engine based braking, thus better for driving in the mountians. there are also various performance changes that can be had with aftermarket tuning changes to O/D OFF with companies such as SCT. Also O/D on and off is not automatic it only changes when you press the magic button.

I haven't notice any light on the console but I'll check it out.
Thank you both I went out and checked and you where right. I was watching the road and missed the light. I usually only check my gauges.Never trusted idiot lights.
