Exhaust Setup

Hey guys, new to forum and to modern muscle cars (only dealt with GM A bodies, really). My friend and I are planning a 500 HP 07' Mustang GT. I've narrowed it down to the Flowmaster Super 40's or 44's (I have 40's on my F-150 and they work great). My question is concerning the pipe layout, cats and headers.
  • Which configuration works best? X, H, or straight?
  • For 500HP, is it recommended to keep the cats. I know most muffler places won't remove them, but I have a guy that will gut them.
  • Finally, which headers work best? Short or long?
Last thing, may seem like a dumb question, but, are the stock GTs true duals?

get lts x pipe and gut the cats it will help a lot with the flow

no they have a H pipe so they are duals... true duals dont have a mid pipe they are just 2 different pipes that never intersect

gut the cats if you can get away with emissions and i hear that super 40's and 44's the difference is extremely miniscule

Yeah, that's one of the things I love about Texas...no emissions requirements! I'm afraid it may screw up any emissions sensors though. Anyone have this problem before?

Yeah, we had planned on a tuner anyway. I'm not familiar with a "mil eliminator" however.
