Air Breather Increase HP

hey guys if you donot have an aftermarket air intake and you have the stock one...for a little hp gain and it sounds really mean also you can hear it sucking in the air very fast...take your air breather off and take the rubber piece that goes into the fender well your losing like 5 to 6 horses...its like your stang is trying to breath with puckered lips..you will feel a little bit more pep in your take offs and people will hear it also...

Yea I think I'd need to see the results to believe 5-6 whp (seems a lil' steep IMO) but I have heard this from a few others before who claim the same sound fx and slight pwr improvement, ya never know, but I doubt you'd see the same hp gain from this alone as a CAI setup which is in the neighborhood of 5-10hp as well.

a cai will not net 5-10hp, especially not at the wheels, on a n/a mustang, so there is no way in hell removing the air silencer (which also draws colder air from the inner fender well) will increase power at all. yeah, you will hear the air rush in more, but that is only because you removed the silencer

Quite the contrary. I am still in high school. I was actually raised in a fortunate environment, but I just don't understand the reasoning behind removing a factory silencer, maintaining the factory air box drawing in warmer air through the same paper filter element and restrictive inlet piping and still making more power- and 4-6 at that.

You said you could provide proof, so I will patiently wait.

Just like when I bought my cai, because I heard it, it must make power- right? This reasoning could only justified my money and labor put into it...

there aint no way that you are getting that HP by just taking out your silencer... sorry, but i don't believe one bit of that because my MAC fenderwell CAI with the MAC performance filter didn't do much & it has WAY better piping & is drawing cold air in from the fenderwell through a performance filter. there is no way that your restrictive stock set-up minus the silencer with a stock/cheap air filter is making 6 more RWHP..

& that was pretty gay to try & make fun of AB for calling out your BS.. if you spread misinformation you are going to get called out, don't get all butt hurt about it when you know it's wrong.... nice try though.

Not to take sides here or anything, but I did read in a mustang mag that removing the air silencer on my Mach would net a hp gain. Can't remember the #'s but I am thinking they were around 4-5hp. and also doing as little as removing the screen in the MAF would net about 7 hp. but then the car runs pretty rich, a little too rich for daily driving without a tune. I'll try to find out which magazine printed that. And all results were obtained on a dyno.

I don't believe that either. The MAF screen is less restrictive than the filter, so it cannot possibly give a gain. It is just there to keep the MAF free of potential internal debris damage.

Please show that the removal of the silencer is giving 4-6hp; I just don't believe a gain- if any- would be that high without proof.

The numbers would have to be in ideally the same temperature settings and cool down periods to be truthful too. And I believe an avg. of 3 runs for accuracy of the dyno is needed for each setup to find a gain as small as 4-6hp.
