Stupid Question,Opinions Appreciated

Hey guys, just installed my MAC 2.5" catback, I wasn't expecting it to be too loud but its really quiet. I still have stock H pipe and headers. I live in AZ so the emissions laws are strict here, I don't have a whole hell of alot of money to play with for a while, what can i do to make it louder? I guess i could haul ass everywhere so i can hear it all the time.lol

well cheapest would be getting some different tips..maybe larger ones? It probably wouldn't make it too much louder though/not really worth it. I'm not a expert though.

It sucks when you spend money and its like nothing different happened. Its kind of a let down. I know how that is.

I know what you mean! I put this exhaust on and I was pretty disappointed. I wasn't expecting too loud but not this quiet. oh well.

i could do that. I also know there are tuners to turn off the o2 sensors so it doesn't kick a code

If the tuner plugs into OBD then that isnt a good idea. When the emissions place unplugs tuner and plugs into your OBD it will throw the code almost right away.

Depending on how often you have emissions it might be worth it to get a different exhaust set up and switch to the stock h when emissions comes around. In IL it used to be every three years or so, but now they changed it to once year so it isn't really worth it to me. But if your testing is more spaced out and you want the better sound/performance go for it. Then again cost may be an issue for you with this idea. Oh and nice sig

I'm pretty sure its once a year here too. which makes it not worth it to me either. My exhaust sounds good enough for now.

i believe you're a bit confused. tuners connect to the OBDII port and accordingly adjust parameters via a custom tune or options offered on the handheld itself. it does not stay connected to the vehicle's OBDII port. it simply alters the settings on the vehicle's ECU and then is disconnected from the vehicle's OBDII port. the "emissions place" will never be touching her tuner.

different exhaust setup is a very broad term. headers, midpipe, and catback are all parts of a full exhaust system. i believe you are referring to a midpipe.

my suggestion is picking up a cheap o/r midpipe (x or h, it all depends on what sound you like). you can find a cheap o/r mid shipped to you for somewhere around 140-170 more than likely. then you can just keep your eye out for some cheaper mil eliminators and use those. then switch to your stock h for emissions testing. all this depends on how much time and money you have to devote to it, this will give you an idea:

catted midpipe = ~ 300
tuner + o/r midpipe = ~ 550-600
mil e. + o/r midpipe = ~ 200

Only tuners I have ever personally used is the EDGE style for an f-150 and a livewire, both of which are permanently plugged into the OBD just assumed that xcals and such were the same. My bad.

it's cool. yeah, those types are a bit different because they kinda get mounted in the vehicle for monitoring and datalogging purposes i assume. with handhelds, though, you just plug, change, unplug, lol.. we were both right, just right in different ways, haha

If you already have the catted stock midpipe then your next step is to do the following.
To remain emissions legal fulltime
Get Headers
Get a Highflow 2.5" or 3" catted Hpipe

To get a better sound
Keep your stock midpipe and install an Off Road H or X pipe until emissions testing
get headers

I'm going to be eventually going with a SS 2.5" catted midpipe

and the reason it's so quiet is because you bought a MAC setup. If you wanted loud you should have gotten a 2chamber flowmaster or Borla setup.
